The nearly 2,000-mile Alaskan Wet Dog Race is intended for personal watercraft. Aiming for a 2011 start, the proposed course would start at the Port of Anchorage and go down the Cook Inlet and around parts of Kodiak and both sides of the Alaska Peninsula.
Though nothing has officially been announced at this time, organizers are hoping for a multimillion-dollar purse and about 500 teams. The entry fee could set a team back $25,000.
Six personal watercraft riders are currently testing out the course. Their findings could help determine if and when the Alaskan Wet Dog Race will ever happen.
