2010 HydroDrag Fall National finds new home

Event to be held at Water Ski Hall of Fame

WaterTop Unlimited will produce the 2010 PWC HydroDrag Fall National on November 6 – 7 at the Water Ski Hall of Fame and Museum venue in Polk City near Lakeland, Florida. The personal watercraft drag race and top speed events draw the fastest PWC riders and machines from all over North America and the HydroDrag Fall National event aims to continue that trend.

The PWC HydroDrag events include head-to-head PWC drag racing on a 1/8th mile (660-feet) track utilizing the WaterTop “Launch Pad” starting system. The Launch Pad is a stationary starting mechanism that cradles two PWC on a dual bunk system and offers fans a look at which racer is “on the gas” with the Novi-Tec thrust meters sending an explosion of water into the sky upon every drop start. Speed Alley is the second aspect of the event in which competitors are given two straight-line runs to post their greatest top speed, recorded by a calibrated radar gun.

The Water Ski facility is home to a man-made ski lake designed to offer the smoothest water possible with optimal spectator viewing. The PWC HydroDrag Fall National venue provides a narrow 1800-foot long, watery runway that will provide competitors ideal conditions for peak performance. Competitors will be vying to break the existing top speed record of 100.5 mph, set by Julio Rivera at the 2009 HydroDrag Spring Nationals in Fellsmere, Fla.

“The US Water-ski facility is taking the HydroDrags to the next level of professionalism,” says Tim McKercher, WaterTop Unlimited general manager. “The best venues for HydroDrag events are man-made ski lakes and this is one of the best. The competitors will love the smooth water, the spacious pit area, and variety of hospitality businesses. Fans will love the viewing angles and convenience to the interstate. This event has everything going for it.”

The Water Ski Hall of Fame facility is located adjacent to Interstate 4, that connects Daytona, Orlando, and Tampa. The facility is only 20-minutes from the Orlando Theme Park area, 10-minutes from dozens of hotels and restaurants in Lakeland, and roughly a mile from Fantasy of Flight, the proclaimed “World’s greatest aircraft collection.”

Early November weather is projected to be ideal for top speeds with comfortable climates and gives riders from northern states one last hurrah for the 2010 boating season.
